How to Play Yukon & Russian Solitaire

Learn the rules of Yukon and Russian Solitaire

Objective

Move all 52 cards to the four foundations, building each up from Ace to King in the same suit. No stock or waste — every card is on the tableau from the start.

The Layout

  • Seven tableau columns; pile sizes 1, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11
  • Each pile has face-down cards at the bottom with five face-up on top (pile 1 has just one card)
  • Four foundations to fill from Ace through King by suit

Moving Cards

  • Pick up any face-up card together with every card stacked on top of it — the stack does not need to be a valid sequence
  • Yukon: the bottom of the moving stack must land on a card one rank higher of the opposite color
  • Russian: the bottom of the moving stack must land on a card one rank higher of the same suit
  • Only Kings (and their stacks) can fill an empty column
  • Face-down cards flip when uncovered

Tips & Strategy

  • Mid-pile moves are powerful — use them to rearrange entire stacks
  • Russian is significantly harder than Yukon; same-suit builds are scarce
  • Prioritize uncovering face-down cards
